OHIP error code EH1
Service Date before Eligibility Effective Date
What EH1 means
The Ministry of Health’s official wording for EH1 is: “Service Date before Eligibility Effective Date.”
This code appears on your Claims Error Report (downloaded through MCEDT). It means the claim was rejected at submission and was never adjudicated for payment — fix the issue below and resubmit the claim.
How to fix EH1
The patient's coverage hadn't started on the service date - have the patient verify (and if needed correct) their eligibility effective date. Only bill the patient if they were genuinely uninsured on that date; if the eligibility date is corrected, resubmit promptly within OHIP's claim-submission window.
Eligibility and health card codes relate to the patient's health number, version code, or OHIP eligibility on the date of service. Most are fixed by re-checking the card (or using Health Card Validation) and correcting the patient details before resubmitting.
